Dragons Abreast Bribie Island was founded in May 2009. Our growing group consists mainly of Survivors, complemented by some wonderful Supporters. We paddle 3 times a week on the magnificent Pumicestone Passage, the body of water separating Bribie Island from the mainland.
DABI offers fun, fitness, friendship and emotional support for members who have survived breast cancer, regardless of age or level of fitness. Our members have all reaped the benefits of being part of this warm friendly group. We invite and welcome visiting members of other DA groups to join us for a paddle. During our training sessions we are often rewarded with sightings of dolphins, turtles, dugongs, pelicans and a host of other birds.
We currently own three boats, two twenty seaters named Kal-Ma-Kuta and Moora Moora and a ten seater, Little Spirit.
We are fortunate to enjoy wonderful support from our local community and in turn become involved in numerous events in our area. We also participate in various dragon boating regattas and some of our members have travelled internationally to be part of the international breast cancer paddling regattas—i.e. Peterborough Canada, Sarasota Florida USA, Florence Italy in 2018 and now looking forward to New Zealand in 2022.
If you would like to contact us to find out our training times or any further information on our club please contact DA Bribie President Judith Finegan – 07 3408 0051 or 0488 199 556.
