Dragons Abreast Byron Bay (aka Rainbow Dragons Abreast) was formed in 2004. Our members come from Ballina, Byron, Lismore and Kyogle shires. This area is also known as the Rainbow Region, hence our name.
Rainbow Dragons Abreast (RDA) warmly welcome breast cancer survivors regardless of age, fitness level, athletic ability or cultural background for a ‘come ‘n try’ paddle on Sundays 7:40 am for 8:00 am start at Lake Ainsworth, Lennox Head.
RDA is a group within the Rainbow Region Dragon Boat Club, for additional training times please check the Rainbow Dragon's webpage. Together we enjoy many laughs, camaraderie and support, it builds our confidence and shows there is quality of life despite a diagnosis of breast cancer.
Our members have participated in numerous regattas including DAA Regattas, Master Games, Chinese New Year event at Darling Harbour, Sydney, and the International Breast Cancer Paddling Commission (IBCPC) events for breast cancer survivors in Australia and Florida. Many members are looking forward to the event in Florence, Italy in 2018!
Whilst we encourage our members to participate in regattas, it is up to each member’s preference if they wish to do so. Regattas are not our only interest. We also take part in Mullum2Brunz paddle (fancy dressed as ‘Priscilla Queen of the River’ in 2014, and ‘Pirates of the Brunz’ in 2015), Woodburn Riverfest and off the water activities i.e. Lismore Lantern Parade.
RDA participates in several awareness and fundraising events including Relay for Life, Girls Night In, Breast Friends, Mother’s Day Classic and Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) day.
