Dragons Abreast Adelaide is a dragon boat team formed in November 2003 by a group of breast cancer survivors. We are celebrating our 15 year anniversary this year!
We are the only Adelaide breast cancer survivor team which is a member of the nationwide organisation Dragons Abreast Australia. This means we can (and do) participate in interstate and overseas breast cancer survivor competitions.
We have both breast cancer survivors and people who have not had breast cancer, in the team.
You can find us at West Lakes Aquatic Reserve, Bower Road. We meet on Saturday mornings at 08:30. We are on the water by 9am and our training session lasts for 1 hour. Paddling season goes from September/October until April/May. As we are social team we usually end up at the local cafe after practice!
We make a gold coin contribution to team expenses each time we paddle. There are also annual fees to cover boat use, insurance and our membership of the South Australian Dragon Boat Association.
To encourage new members to come and try dragon boating the first 4 sessions are free to enable you to decide if dragon boating is for you.
When you come and try paddling, wear loose comfortable clothing, and bring along a drink bottle, hat, sunscreen, and aqua shoes (or shoes that can get wet!).If you are not a confident swimmer, lifejackets are available and we also supply you with a paddle.
We welcome all new potential members irrespective of age, fitness level or stage of diagnosis/treatment.
If you want to talk to someone about joining or have any questions please call:-
