A magical pink dragon powered by paddling breast cancer survivors and their supporters will join thousands of people making a stand for ‘Field of Women’ at the MCG this Saturday.
The dragon is the creation of artist, breast cancer survivor and Vice President of Dragons Abreast Patterson Lakes Pink Lotus’ dragon boating group, Linda Papworth.
Ms Papworth says, ‘As both Dragons Abreast Australia and Breast Cancer Network Australia, are celebrating their twentieth anniversaries this year, I thought a dragon joining in Field of Women would be fitting. The dragon’s body has been signed by breast cancer survivors from all over the world at the recent International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission Festival in Florence, Italy, making it even more special.’
‘We want people to see and know that a breast cancer diagnosis doesn’t have to mean the end of fitness, teamwork, fun and adventure and that dragon boat paddling has proven itself over and over again to aid in breast cancer recovery both physically and emotionally.’
Anyone interested in joining the Dragon’s Abreast dragon in its prance from Federation Square to the MCG is welcome to meet up at 11.30am on Sunday 12 August. Tickets to the Field of Women will have to be prepurchased through Ticketek.
Come celebrate Dragon Abreast Australia and BCNA’s amazing milestone birthdays, and bring even more colour to the day!
