DAA would like to congratulate DA Canberra for organising and hosting such a successful Corporate and Social regatta on 20 November on Lake Burley Griffin. We sincerely thank you for the huge amount of work in organising the event, especially your planning committee, DBACT and the Canberra community.
As joint DA Canberra/ DAA fundraiser, the regatta attracted 120 DAA members from around the country, travelling from as far away as Mackay and Ballarat. Thank you all for your support. Your enthusiasm made it a very exciting and 'pink' event and complemented the experiences and breast cancer awareness of participants involved in the corporate and social teams, including those from Embassies, Government Departments and other areas.
Despite the weather misbehaving, with cool weather and winds at times, the regatta went ahead and all teams had two races before the waves meant we called a halt. It was a real festival with all the trimmings including lion dancers, food and coffee, merchandise stalls, live music, fun costumes and even lavender in the toilets.
DA Canberra ensured all our DAA visitors had extra opportunities to get together for fun and site seeing in their city and make a real weekend of it. They organised extras such as pre dinner drinks on Friday at the Yacht Club and Saturday in the Old Parliament House Rose Garden, as well as an exciting paddle to Parliament House on Sunday morning.
We hope we can continue to be involved in this wonderful venture again next year, and see this might be a model that could be repeated in other parts of the country.
Thank you again
