Welcome to Our Community
We are Dragons Abreast Newcastle, a warm and welcoming group of breast cancer survivors and supporters paddling in the beautiful Hunter region. Training on Newcastle’s waterways, we focus on rebuilding strength, fitness and confidence through dragon boating, while providing a safe and understanding space for those on a breast cancer journey.
As an active member group of Dragons Abreast Australia, we proudly paddle alongside the local dragon boat community while remaining closely connected to the wider DAA family. Our crew combines supportive paddling sessions with regatta participation, social connection and community awareness, creating a balance of wellness, teamwork and fun.
Above all, we paddle to celebrate survivorship, support one another, and show that life after breast cancer can be active, joyful and empowering. Whether you are new to paddling or returning to the water, you’ll find encouragement, friendship and a strong sense of belonging with Dragons Abreast Newcastle.
Training Times
Our Dragons Abreast team trains every Sunday morning at 7.45am at The Rowing Shed, Tully Street, Carrington (just drive over the bridge, first left and next left again and then at the water’s edge you will see us.)
We train on Throsby Creek and if the weather permits we paddle up our beautiful Harbour.
After training we head to Carrington Bowling club for coffee, breakfast if you wish, and a great chat and much laughter.
