Welcome to Our Community
Dragons Abreast Sydney officially formed in 2003 with Margot Case as the Founding Coordinator but the first glimmer of what would become the Sydney team began way back in 2000, when Deb Read (dec) and Julie Fairbanks took up the challenge and paddled with Dragons Abreast at what would be their first appearance at the Australian National Dragon Boat Championships in Penrith.
In 2001, Caroline Bommer, a young survivor and in her professional life, a patent attorney, decided to try to establish a group in Sydney. Caroline joined the Port Hacking Dragon Boat Club, and it was thanks to her efforts that the formation of Sydney started to become a reality.
Today we are a large and friendly club with a competitive streak but also a very social outlook and calendar. We hold regular ‘Newbie’ Days for interested breast cancer survivors to come and learn more about us.
