Welcome to Our Community

Dragons Abreast Townsville has been an active Dragons Abreast group since 2004. A vibrant group of Breast Cancer Survivors and their Supporters meet every Saturday morning on the Townsville Strand at 7am for social and technique paddling. We are affectionally known as “Twin Titties” and have two dragon boats which allow us to take out up to 30 paddlers, plus sweeps if required.

In 2010, a sporting Dragon Boat Club was formed – “Townsville Dragon Boat Club Inc.” and Dragons Abreast Townsville members are a vital group within this club. Through membership of both clubs, paddlers can participate in local, state, national and international dragon boat events, either as part of a sporting team or as part of a breast cancer survivor team. It also allows for members to train up to 3 times a week if they wish to.

We have regular social events throughout the year with the goal of building teamwork and developing long lasting friendships as we strive to promote life after breast cancer. We will provide you with a lifejacket, paddle, seat cushion, coaching, and the best time of your life!

Training Times

We meet on Saturday mornings at 7am in front of Tobruk Pool, opposite Kiosk.
We are on the water by 7.30am and come in at 8.30am. Pack up and then have a coffee and chat at the Tobruk Kiosk.

We have a lymph focused warm up & recovery to support the recovery of breast cancer, training sessions to suit all levels of fitness. We want to help rebuild strength, confidence and connection – showing that there truly is life after breast cancer.
DATi have a Dragon Pass, which means 4 weeks free to try
Fun, friendship & fitness in a supportive, understanding environment.

We also have a clubhouse (Affectionately called the Dragon Den or the DD) . We share this space with our sister club, Townsville Dragon Boat Club. Located on Sporting Drive, Riverway Lagoon, Condon. We have the option of Sports Club Training on a Tuesday & Thursday afternoon, meeting by 5pm and on water by 5.30pm, off water by 6.30pm and pack up.This training is more intense for those wanting to lift their fitness levels and be more competitive.
We have paddlers who come along on Saturday, and others who also join in Tuesday & Thursday. We are very lucky to have 2 options, The Strand and Riverway, to dragon boat.
