ABOUT DRAGONS ABREAST CENTRAL COAST Inc. (est. 2005)
We are one of many national breast cancer survivor ‘Member Groups’ affiliated to Dragons Abreast Australia (DAA). Read about DAA here.
We are co-located and directly associated with Central Coast Dragon Boat Club at 20 Peel St Toukley NSW. Our members are at all stages of recovery, or are living with breast cancer. Through the sport of dragon boating we give a ‘face’ to breast cancer survivorship and demonstrate the health benefits of keeping physically active after a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

ABOUT DRAGON BOATING
Dragon boating is a team sport suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. No experience is necessary! A crew of up to 20 paddlers uses coordinated paddling techniques to propel the boat, and a sweep steers the boat and maintains safety.
All you need is a ‘have a go’ attitude, sunscreen, hat, comfy clothes, and closed-in shoes. Checking with your doctor if you’ve recently completed treatment or have a current health condition before starting is recommended.

WHAT DRIVES US?
Breast cancer survivors paddle for different reasons…. some want to resume physical activity after treatment and want to try something different. Some are simply attracted to being out on the water. Many are looking for the camaraderie that comes from being part of a group of people who’ve walked a similar path. Paddling in a boat full of breast cancer survivors definitely inspires confidence and determination! Some members train hard, others prefer to take it more gently. Everyone does their individual best, gets fitter, and has a laugh. Read more here
