Dragons Abreast Mackay (aka DAM Oarsome) was formed in 2005. We are a group of breast cancer survivors and supporters of various ages and levels of fitness who meet at the Mackay Marina on Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons to paddle in our boat “Lorna’s Wish.”
Our aim is to have fun while improving our fitness and making new friends. We like to promote breast cancer awareness and the benefits of an active life after breast cancer. We also enjoy a variety of social activities and community events.
Our members have the opportunity to participate in numerous regattas including DAA events, Townsville Regattas, Masters Games and International Breast Cancer Paddling Commission (IBCPC) events. In 2018, we travelled to Florence Italy for the IBCPC event. While we encourage our members to participate in regattas it is always their choice if they wish to or not. We welcome all new members, breast cancer survivors and supporters. No experience is necessary and we will loan you the equipment you need to get started. Just come along give it a try to see if you like it!
Training Times
We train on Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons but starting times vary with the seasons so if you would like to come please give us a call on 0429 614 791 to find out more details.
