Lena Sandstrom Bribie Island

Although only new to paddling, Lena thoroughly enjoyed the sport. In her short time with the Dragons Abreast Bribie Island (DABI) club Lena finally found a place where she felt she could combine not only her love of the sun and water but more importantly develop a sense of belonging with the club members who eagerly welcomed her into the fold.

Due to health problems, Lena had left her family and friends in Sweden, seeking a home in warmer climes. After visiting several countries, Lena settled in Australia and eventually made her way to Queensland and Bribie Island.

Lena was very passionate about animals, particularly the marine life and dedicated her time between DABI, Sea Shepherd, the Bribie Island Gemstone Club, her crafts and acting classes. Unbeknownst to most of her acquaintances, Lena appeared in televisions shows and movies, usually as an extra, both in Australia and Sweden. In one production she portrayed two completely different characters!

Possessing a very strong willpower, Lena was determined to steer her own cancer treatments and recovery, just as she did with every task she undertook. Her research into her cancer, treatments and recovery were undertaken with the same voracity that she had undertaken all other challenges in her short life. Sadly, Lena’s cancer was terminal and we farewelled our Swedish angel on Saturday, 25 July, 2020
