About Carolyn Kiely

My dragon boat journey began unexpectedly in April 2024, when a breast cancer diagnosis prompted me to find new ways to support my physical and mental wellbeing. I discovered dragon boating while still undergoing treatment, and from my very first sunrise paddle on Lake Burley Griffin, I knew I’d found something special.

I’m now a proud member of Dragons Abreast Canberra, where I’ve seen firsthand how our community helps women move from survivorship to thrivership. Over the past year I’ve loved connecting with our broader pink paddling family—paddling at Lunar New Year, AusChamps, Vancouver, and PPP—and I’m excited to join Team Spirit in France next year.

As a Director, my focus is on two key areas:
Advocacy – promoting the benefits of dragon boating to the growing number of younger women diagnosed with breast cancer and helping them find their tribe.
Future Talent – supporting the growth of the BCP category and encouraging pathways to future national teams.

I’m committed to using both my professional skills and my passion for paddling to help DAA grow, strengthen connections, and continue leading this incredible survivor movement. I can’t wait to meet more of you on and off the water—Stronger Together!
