Desley Ralph

I joined Dragons Abreast Townsville (aka Twin Titties) in 2008, after hearing a very passionate speaker at an Encore program. I found myself surrounded by an amazing group of women, with a wonderful zest for life. I was encouraged to join the committee and I went on to serve in various positions, including foundation committee member of our sports club. I found my sea legs as a sweep straight away and am now a L4 sweep mentor and regional Sweep Coordinator.  

Being located in North Queensland, means a lot of travel to attend regattas and festivals; this makes every chance to meet and paddle with our DA friends something special. Whether its sweeping under the Ponte Vecchio (IBCPC Florence 2018), taming the rough waters of Lake Karapiro (IBCPC NZ 2023) or a regular training session on the beautiful Strand beach at home, I am continually inspired by the strong women around me.  

Advocating for breast cancer awareness and leading a full and active life post diagnosis are important to me. I have gained valuable skills through my background in finance, business ownership, and active participation in community organisations, which I will bring to a director’s role.
