Illawarra Dragons Abreast was formed in 2002 by members of the Illawarra Breast Cancer Support Group. At present we have 35 members. We provide the opportunity for women who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer to participate in a fun sport where friendship, support and encouragement are readily available. Dragons Abreast Sydney officially formed in 2003 with Margot Case as the Founding Coordinator but the first glimmer of what would become the Sydney team began way back in 2000, when Deb Read (dec) and Julie Fairbanks took  up the challenge and paddled with Dragons Abreast at what would be their first appearance at the Australian National Dragon Boat Championships in Penrith.
