Dragons Abreast Western Region has grown and evolved to support Breast Cancer Survivors (BCS) and their supporters across the vast Western Region of New South Wales. Our mission is to provide a welcoming, inclusive community where individuals can come together, connect, and thrive.
Our members span an extensive area, representing towns and cities such as Narrabri, Wagga Wagga, Forbes, Parkes, Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Mudgee, Lithgow, and everywhere in between. Despite the distances, we share a strong bond and are committed to fostering a sense of unity. We aim to train together whenever possible and proudly represent our region by entering Breast Cancer Survivor crews in state and national regattas.
As a visible presence in our communities, we are a living testament to the prevalence of breast cancer and the resilience of those who face it. By embodying our five core principles—keeping active, fostering social connection, learning new skills, practicing mindfulness, and sharing time and talents—we demonstrate that there is a rich, fulfilling, and engaged life to be lived after a breast cancer diagnosis.
Through dragon boating, we not only improve our physical health but also nurture our mental well-being and create lifelong friendships. Together, we are stronger, showing the world that life after breast cancer is not just about surviving—it’s about thriving.
