Dragons Abreast Sydney officially formed in 2003 with Margot Case as the Founding Coordinator but the first glimmer of what would become the Sydney team began way back in 2000, when Deb Read (dec) and Julie Fairbanks took up the challenge and paddled with Dragons Abreast at what would be their first appearance at the Australian National Dragon Boat Championships in Penrith. Dragons Abreast Canberra was the second DAA team in Australia, commencing paddling in 1999.
