“I’ve Been Everywhere” Posted on: 03 April 2020

Recently Dragons Abreast Ballarat celebrated its 15th Anniversary with a drinks and canapés Paddle Steamer cruise on Lake Wendouree.

We reflected on one of the unexpected but wonderful benefits that come with Dragons Abreast – Travel. Not just to exotic places but exploring the many watery by-ways in our own state. Paddlers have also undertaken a night paddle on the Yarra River; a treasure hunt and a nature tour on the Hopkins River, and hosted a history tour of Lake Wendouree.

Our members have paddled in the following places (in no particular order!):

Victoria – Lake Wendouree, Ballarat; Lake Weroona, Bendigo; Barwon River, Geelong; Hopkins River, Warnambool; Wimmera River, Horsham, Murray River, Loxton and downstream; Docklands, Melbourne; Yarra River to Herring Island, Melbourne; National Water Sports Centre, Pattison River Carrum; Pattison Lakes; Maribyrnong River, Footscray; Gateway Lake, Albury/Wodonga; Port of Sale, Sale; Lake Nagambie, Nagambie. Australia – Cockle Bay, Sydney; Mt Warning, NSW; Caloundra. Queensland; Ord River, Western Australia; Derwent River, Tasmania; Coomera Lake, Coomera, Jack Evans Boat Harbour, Tweed Heads, Masters Games in Adelaide, Lake Orr, Gold Coast, Cullen Bay, Darwin, Bribie Island, Queensland, Lake Barrington, Tasmania; Lake Burleigh Griffin, ACT.

We have been to every State and Territory!

Further afield – Peterborough, Canada; Sarasota, Florida, USA; River Arno, Florence, Italy; Hong Kong Harbour; Great River Race, Thames River, London UK; Vogalonga, Grand Canal, Venice, Italy: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Schuylkill River, Philadelphia, USA; Busan, South Korea; Malacca and Putrajaya, Malaysia; Suva, Fiji.

Other clubs may like to play the game of “I’ve Been Everywhere” remembering the road trips, regattas, races – lost and won, friends made and laughs had and plan their continuing journey after this period of isolation.

We would love you to visit us!
